Dr. Hinton

Toronto, Canada

You were our honoured guest at both the QESOSA Ontario’s 10th and 20th anniversary celebration. Our 30th anniversary is just around the corner but sadly you will not be here with us to mark another milestone of QESOSA.
How we miss you, now and always!

From this point on, the inception of QESOSA Overseas Chapters came one by one. Now In Canada, we have one in both British Columbia and Ontario; in United States, a Northern and a Southern QESUSAAA in California, and one in Australia.

I still have the souvenir pin of Wien that you gave me.
Then your visit to Toronto, Canada in June 1989 with Mrs. Hinton when we had almost a hundred, 99 to be exact, at your welcome party incited your former students of Ontario and vicinity to form a QESOSA Overseas Chapter.

The first time James and I visited you was in Vienna, decades after we left Hong Kong. From the moment you met us at the train station with your remark of “Oh, Nancy, you’ve grown, sideways!”, the visit was full of laughter and tender moments. You and Mrs. Hinton took us to palaces around the city and to vineyards in the countryside.

Our Elsie (Cont"d)

You will now suffer no more and pain no more, you will meet my Elsie under God’s care and your Elsie some day!

Peter, Hedy and your families: May the knowledge of Arthur now being in a better place brings comfort to you in your time of sorrow!

Our Elsie (Cont'd)

and could hardly communicate with you on the phone. Any mention of her name only brought sadness and a feeling of helplessness in your voice, and Elsie’s name seemed to have faded away somehow. Both you and I love our Elsie but there was not much we could do…

Our Elsies
There was a slight joyous surprise in your response when I told you we named our firstborn ‘Elsie’. That was when I learned your sister also named Elsie.
We spoke of my Elsie only for the first little while as she was just with us for a short time. Then I learned more about your Elsie until more recent years when she was in a care home

So sad you’ve left us. You’ll be dearly missed. You often said you didn’t know why your students were so good to you.Well, nothing comes from nothing. It’s because you treated us like your own children.I can never forget that you offered to pay my tuition fees for the nursing school in UK.Though I didn’t accept your kindness I’m always grateful.
