Dr. Hinton

I switched from Wah Yan Kowloon to QES form 6 & 7 and appreciated the help when I passed the "six and seven" (referring to lyrics of Don't Cry for Me Argentina by Tim Rice and A. Weber) in QES under Dr Hinton's adminstration. Most students do fear the principal but not for Dr. Hinton, even though he was hugh in height. A gentleman who acts what

Dear Dr. Hinton

This departure came too soon: For while you were a great principal and no doubt, an excellent teacher too, above all, you were an inspiring human being. I repeat here what I wrote to you 2 years ago:
Arthur, Arthur, shining bright, You’re our conscience and our light.
In depressions or delight, You will show us what is right.
Rest in peace!

Sometimes I wonder where I got my liberal thoughts from. Sometimes inequities in the world’s most distant places move me to tears – I wonder where I got this softness from. When I reflected on my fomative years in QES in 1960-67, when Dr. Hinton was there all along, I sort of knew the answer. It is now crystal clear.

I joined QES from Wah yan College Kowloon for Form 6 & 7 where I passed my six and seven times under Dr. Hinton's adminstraiton. (Note: If you do not know what I mean by six and seven, please refer to the lyrics of Don't Cry for Me Argentina by Andrew Weber.)
Dr Hinton is the only prinipcal that I admire, a perfect gentleman.

Dr. Hinton was personable and humourous. He said many things during the assembly at QES. The one thing that I remember most was after the exam, when we had a week of play and no work, he said, "Work hard and play hard." I remembered it and has since become my motto.
